Marvel has been hitting it out of the park with their Star Wars comics, and they've got another limited series in the works that fans of the galaxy far, far away are definitely going to want to check out.

It's called Star Wars: Obi-Wan and Anakin, and from this small preview it certainly looks promising. The comic takes place between the events of The Phantom Menance and Attack of the Clones, as Anakin is still a young Padawan learning the ways of the force from Obi-Wan. With Anakin beginning his Jedi training so late, it sounds like the road hasn't been an easy one, and their latest adventure to a remote planet will put their Padawan and Master relationship to the test. The book's plot synopsis also promises to explore the "foundations of their doomed friendship."

That certainly sounds exciting, but it's the creative talent behind the book that has us already wishing this comic was in our hands. Writer Charles Soule will be penning the story for the series, with artist Marco Checchetoo supplying the look for each issue. Soule has proven he knows the Star Wars universe well with his excellent work on Marvel's Lando mini-series, so to have him return for this series is great news. Checchetoo, too, is no stranger to Star Wars, having done work for The Force Awakens tie-in series Star Wars: Shattered Empire. From the previews seen below, Checcetoo looks to be on the top of his game.

The idea of exploring more of the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin before they were brothers-in-arms during the Clone Wars is set to fill in a specific void currently found in Star Wars canon. After Disney eradicated the Star Wars Expanded Universe, there aren't currently any "official" tales involving the two characters prior to Attack of the Clones. Knowing the ultimate fate of these two characters and their later conflict gives Soule and Checchetoo a roadmap to follow, allowing them to plant early hints about where Anakin's training might have gone wrong. You can check out the previews for the first issue below.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan and Anakin #1 arrives in a comic shop near you on January 6.
