It looks like Facebook is cutting out the middleman — or rather, cutting out the step of opening another tab on your smartphone or laptop — by introducing a new feature that lets users purchase tickets to events directly through the social media site.

The new feature will be available on Facebook's event pages, where users will be able to click on a button that will redirect them to an in-app interface. However, tickets purchased will only be available in physical form for customers to pick up at the given venue's will-call, which seems counterintuitive to Facebook's all-digital terrain, as the Next Web pointed out.

The app has also only teamed up with indie venues, artists and promoters, and will not take a portion of the generated revenue.

In an interview with BuzzFeed earlier this year, Facebook product manager Aditya Koolwal explained why Facebook wanted to implement the direct-purchase feature.

"Reducing the friction for buying a ticket is something that we think would be pretty interesting to do eventually," he said. "That's definitely a very interesting thing that we're waiting for the right time for."

Right now, the feature is only available for Facebook users in the Bay Area, with no word on when the feature will have a national launch.
