If you wanted to see the emotional story of Sony's The Last of Us done as theater, now you can get the next best thing.

Sony held "The Last of Us: One Night Live" at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California last night. The company has posted a YouTube video with a selection of the program from the event.

As Tech Times previously reported, the event featured a live reading of select scenes with five of the actors from the game: Troy Baker (Joel), Ashley Johnson (Ellie), Merle Dandridge (Marlene), Hana Hayes (Sarah) and Annie Wersching (Tess). They were directed by the game's creative director, Neil Druckmann. The composer Gustavo Santaolalla was also on hand to perform music from the game.

The Last of Us is the story of two survivors in a U.S. wrecked after the zombie apocalypse. Joel is a veteran of the 20-year war against the fungi-infected zombies, who is charged with escorting Ellie, a 14-year old girl, across the country. Along the way they encounter hordes of the infected, bands of violent bandits, other travelers and the ruined cities of America.

Word has spread online of a scene acted out that did not appear in the game and was purposely left out of the YouTube video, an epilogue taking place years after the original story ended. Read about it here.

The event coincided with the release today of The Last of Us Remastered, a PlayStation 4 version of the acclaimed PS3 installment with improved graphics, creator commentary and the downloadable content included.

At San Diego Comic Con, Sami Raimi announced he will be producing a "Last of Us" film.
