Verizon is the exclusive carrier for Motorola's Droid Turbo 2 handset, and the mobile data provider's employees just received the Marshmallow upgrade for their Android OS.

All those who own the Employee Edition of the DROID Turbo 2 (meaning: employees of Verizon) received a notification stating that they can preview the software version 24.11.13 of Android 6.0. It was soon apparent that this was Android 6.0 Marshmallow, plain and simple.

Why would owners of the Droid Turbo 2 be excited about the update? Mainly because they will be on par with owners of the Moto X Pure Edition, who started receiving the update no later than last week. What is more, the update means that Android users will get the best of Google's latest OS, alongside Motorola's myriad of apps. It should be noted that the Assist was left out of the update, however.

A big plus is the addition of Doze, which serves as a great way to save battery life. Doze optimizes the battery use of your handset, so you may leave your phone idle for many a day before it runs out of juice.

Neat new features are, for example, the direct file sharing with other Marshmallow users and the simplified sound controls. Other pluses are that the word selection happens easier and is more precise, making copying, cutting and pasting a breeze.  More features are available, such as Google Now on Tap which allows users' access to information without opening Google Now.

Earlier this year, Google said that there are a lot of reasons to update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Here are some of them, as listed in the Android M Developer Preview:

-          Do not disturb quick settings

-          Improved text layout performance

-          Alphabetic app list

-          Undo/Redo keyboard shortcuts

-          Data Usage API for work profiles

-          App link verification

-          Improved Bluetooth energy scanning

-          Setup wizard: IMAP sign-in

-          Google Now Launcher app suggestions

-          Auto backup for apps

-          Power improvements in Wi-Fi scanning

-          Unified Google settings and device settings

-          UI toolkit performance improvements

-          Chrome custom tabs

-          Hotspot 2.0 R1

-          Material design support library

-          Bluetooth SAP

-          Seven additional languages

-          Delegated certificate installation

It remains to be seen when the non-Verizon employed owners of Motorola Droid Turbo 2 will get a taste of Marshmallow. If it happens, we will keep you posted.
