Wolverine is back, but in Old Man Logan #1, everything has changed for the clawed superhero, thanks to events in Marvel's Secret Wars storyline.

With writing by Jeff Lemire and art by Andrea Sorrentino, Old Man Logan #1 takes Logan, aka Wolverine, back to the present, where he must attempt to change his future, and possibly, his fate.

"Decades from now, a day will come when the villains of the Marvel Universe will band together and rid the world of its heroes," writes Marvel in an email press release. "Only Logan now remains, having committed an untold number of atrocities of his own. But when he winds up in the Marvel Universe of today, he'll finally get his chance to make his future right."

Marvel also released a first look at the pages of the first issue of Old Man Logan, including cover art and interior pages.

The first Old Man Logan story, written by Mark Millar with art by Steve McNiven, premiered in 2003. That story followed Logan through a post-apocalyptic world where the villains destroyed the heroes, resulting in Logan deciding to settle down with a wife and children. Of course, that didn't last long, and Logan soon found himself in his superhero shoes again.

Eventually, Old Man Logan got his own series during Marvel's Secret Wars event: the new ongoing series picks up exactly where that one left off, with a naked Logan wandering through New York's Times Square.

"The first four-issue arc will be about Logan experiencing his first, traumatic impact in this all-new world," said Sorrentino to MediaConnectionOnline.com. "In the meanwhile, his past in the Wasteland will keep hunting [sic] him and we'll use that to explore corners of the Wastelands readers still didn't have the chance to see in previous Old Man Logan storylines."

In the new series, Logan will also run into several other familiar Marvel faces, including Hulk.

"Logan and Hulk have a tradition in battling each other, and it was great to have the chance to put my stamp into a new 'chapter' of this renewed confrontation," said Sorrentino. "Of course, we're having a little different version of both the characters with Amadeus Cho as Hulk and our Old Logan taking part of it, but I can assure readers this won't make it less brutal!"

Old Man Logan #1 arrives in comic book stores on Jan. 27.
