Motorola's rumored smartphone, the Moto G, made a brief appearance on the company's website but disappeared soon after.

Rumors of the Moto G have been doing recent rounds very frequently and it seems that the handset will hit the shelves sooner rather than later.

The report of the leak was first reported by DroidLife. Famous leakster @evleaks also tweeted about some of the expected features of the upcoming smartphone. The tweet also suggests that the handset will be available for free on a contract.

A GSM Arena report cites its own tipster and indicates that it has received a promo card for the Moto G, which is probably heading to UK retailer Phones4U. The promo card seems to feature festive theme and the handset is likely to hit shelves before Christmas. The GSM Arena report also points out that the handset will be available for £134.95 without any contract.

The leaked promo card for the Moto G suggests that the mid-range smartphone will sport a 4.5-inch screen with 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution edge-to-edge HD display and 329 pixels per inch (ppi). The screen of the smartphone will be protected with Corning Gorilla Glass.

The Moto G is expected to feature a 5-megapixel primary camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The handset will have 8GB of on-board storage and 1,950 mAh battery.

Per the leaked promo card, the Moto G will run on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and will also have a water repellent coating. The handset will also have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. With the launch of Android 4.4 KitKat, many smartphone enthusiasts would have hoped the device to come pre-loaded with the latest Android operating system. However, the smartphone will come pre-loaded with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean instead.

The company has not yet officially announced the handset but Motorola had previously hinted that it will launch a budget-friendly version of the Moto X.

The competition in the smartphone arena is increasing rapidly and the Moto G may prove to be a stiff competitor to other handsets in the mid-range category. Given the price tag of the handset, many smartphone customers may be tempted to buy a new handset just in time for the holiday season.
