It was a mere two days ago that director George Miller declared in an interview with Page Six "I won't make more Mad Max movies." Apparently, that wasn't exactly what he meant.

Clarifying his statements to The Wrap in the wake of Mad Max: Fury Road receiving Oscar nominations for both Best Picture and Best Director, Miller says he was misquoted and that he never said "no" to doing more films in the franchise.

"That was a completely garbled interview," Miller says. "I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review. She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another ‘Mad Max' movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another ‘Mad Max.' It won't necessarily be next, but I have two more stories."

That falls more in line with what Miller has stated in past interviews, saying two scripts for future films have been submitted to the studio. Now it's down to figuring out which film will get made first.

The idea that Miller wants to take a break before crafting another post-apocalyptic epic is completely understandable. It took Miller nearly two decades to see Fury Road to completion. Given that film's critical success, it seems safe to assume the next entry in the franchise will move along a little easier.

But just because Miller is down for more Mad Max doesn't mean that the franchise won't ever change hands. Miller told IGN last year that he isn't opposed to other directors taking over the franchise.

Fans who found Tuesday's news troubling can rest easy: more Mad Max from George Miller is coming. He's just taking a much deserved vacation first.
