Standing desks can get pretty pricey. Thankfully, Hootesuite CEO Ryan Holmes has a solution — and it only costs $25. The company has managed to cut corners by making the desk out of cardboad. In fact, it's not really a desk but more of a fold-up device that sits atop a normal desk.

The contraption itself is called the Oristand, and it's strong enough to hold a laptop, and wide enough to work with a keyboard and mouse. Of course, you'll have to be careful with it — if you spill coffee on it you might be out of luck.

"We figured at the $25 price point there would be less hesitation to try one out, even for people who may down the road want a full-size, fully automated desk," said Steven Suchy, a product designer who worked on the desk with Ryan Holmes. "We thought that making an affordable, easy-to-use product would allow people to try a standing desk for the first time."

The Oristand isn't the first standing desk made out of cardboard. Another, called Chairigami, was designed to be a lot cheaper than alternatives — a Kickstarter version billed as the first standing cardboard desk costs $95, while a version that comes in three heights depending upon the user's height costs $165. Oristand, however, is cheaper and convertible — it folds flat when not in use.

The desks can be bought now from the Oristand website.
