LG launched the much-awaited LG G5 at the 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC), which sports top-notch specifications. However, the hardware specs of the phone may vary from region to region.

LG announced that the LG G5 will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz, Adreno 530 GPU and 4 GB of RAM. However, the LG G5 to be officially released in Latin America will have Snapdragon 652 processor, 3G B of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU.

Pisapapeles reports that LG's sales manager for Chile, Cristian Correa, has confirmed that the LG G5 in Latin America will receive a less powerful Snapdragon processor.

Correa says that the company took the decision to use a Snapdragon 652 processor instead of a Snapdragon 820 processor after receiving feedback from network operators and the currency appreciation in the region.

LG announced a number of companion devices for the LG G5 at the MWC. All these accessories enhance the overall experience for LG G5 users. One of the companion devices is the LG 360 VR, which is a virtual reality headset that can be coupled with the LG G5.

The headmount weighs 118 grams, or about 4.16 ounces, which is lighter than many other VR headsets available in the market. The LG 360 VR does not hold the LG G5 but users can connect their smartphone to the device with a dedicated cable. The LG 360 VR stimulates a 130-inch TV viewed from 2 meters (6.56 feet) away.

Unfortunately, the Latin American model of the LG G5 will not offer support for the LG 360 VR. The demand for VR headsets has been gaining momentum in the international market but Correa suggests that the demand for VR entertainment in Latin America is not enough, which is a reason why the region-specific LG G5 will not support LG 360 VR.

Many customers who were looking forward to purchase the LG G5 in Latin America will be disappointed with the news. However, smartphone enthusiasts who can afford the Snapdragon 820 version of the LG G5 can purchase it online and get an international delivery.

Other features in the Latin American iteration of the LG G5 such as the camera, battery, storage and more remain unchanged.

Samsung has also launched the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge in two versions: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset model and an Exynos 8 version, and both the processors are equally powerful.

However, it is quite rare for a company like LG to launch a downgraded version of their flagship device in specific regions.
