Game developer Bungie announced on Thursday that the latest update for its popular shooter Destiny is set to be released on April 12, bringing along with it a number of additional content and other bonuses for players.

According to the company, the spring update will feature something new for every type of Guardian in the game. These include new and updated player gear, a new quest involving the Blighted Chalice Strike and new player-versus-environment (PvE) challenges.

The new update will also contain improvements on the maximum amount of Light and rewards Guardians can possess, as well as updates for the game's sandbox and player-vs-player (PvP) system known as Crucible.

The Blighted Chalice strike is considered to be a first for Destiny as there is no known challenge in the game under that name.

Previous Destiny expansions brought several new features to the game, such as increasing the cap for Guardians by two levels with The Dark Below and House of Wolves releases and setting the cap to level 40 with Destiny: The Taken King in September.

The Light that players accumulate is now separated from their levels as a result of The Taken King expansion as well. Guardians can collect as much as 320 Light at any single point in the game.

Gamers who already own The Taken King expansion will be able to download the April update for free, much like with other additional content Bungie has released in recent months.

For more information regarding the Destiny spring update, Bungie will conduct three livestream sessions on Twitch for the next three weeks. Each session will feature discussions on upcoming game content included in the update such as new in-game activities, rewards and other additions to the sandbox and Crucible features.

In February, Bungie confirmed reports of a planned sequel to Destiny but pointed out that it will not come out until 2017.

The game developer, however, revealed that a new expansion to the original game will be made available later this year. It is still not clear whether this release will be a minor one, similar to The Dark Below and House of Wolves expansions, or if it will be more along the lines of The Taken King.
