The first-ever expansion for Fallout 4, the Automatron DLC, was released on March 22 and now gamers can battle the Mechanist and his bot army.

To counter the Mechanist, gamers will be required to build their own robots in Fallout 4. The DLC will enable one to not only build, but also customize the robots to augment their abilities.

Moreover, gamers will not only be able to build and customize new robots, but have the option of upgrading the existing bot companion such as Curie and Codsworth.

Here's a quick guide to aid you in building and customizing your robots in Fallout 4 Automatron.

Important To Remember

1. Once you start the DLC, you need to finish the first mission. This is necessary for one to get access to the "Building a Robot Workbench" feature in the settlement. Once this hurdle is crossed and you have access to the Robot Workbench, you're good to go and can begin building bots.

2. To create a basic variant of a bot, you need to have the components listed below:

• Rubber - 6
• Circuitry - 6
• Ceramic - 9
• Aluminum - 11
• Adhesive - 8

Initially, you can use these basic pieces to build a robot but as the game progresses, using parts from enemy robots serve as a better option.

Guide To Building And Modifying Robots

Step 1: Complete the Mechanical Menace quest and continue to the next, A New Threat.

Step 2: Once you have finished speaking to Ada you will be able to create the Robot Workbench. During the A New Threat quest, you are instructed to create the Robot Workbench in one of the settlements.

Fast-travel to the settlement and gain access to the Workshop interface. Open the Special tab, Scroll down and select "Robot Workbench."

Remember that you have the following resources to create the workbench:

• Gears - 6
• Screws - 4
• Oil - 4
• Aluminum - 12
• Plastic - 4
• Nuclear Material - 4
• Fiberglass - 6
• Circuitry - 3

Step 3: Place the Robot Workbench anywhere in the settlement. It is now functional and can be deployed to alter robots that you already have. You can also build new Automatron bots from scratch. Ada guides you in getting familiar with the Robot Workbench and also volunteers to be a test subject.

Step 4: If you want to modify an existing robot then ensure that the bot is assigned as Companion. Next, get it to the Robot Workbench - it is not necessary for the bot to be present at the workbench physically to be modified.

Step 5: Go to the computer terminal for Robot Workbench. Select the robot's name - the one you wish to modify. Alternately, if you want to build a new robot, select the "New Automatron" option in the list.

Take note that you cannot access the Robot Workbench when attired in Power Armor suit.

The Robot Workbench operates similarly to the Weapons Workbench. You will see the mods are categorized by the body part. There is also a category for Special Mods. The Companion can be kitted with a slew of customizations that range from new paint jobs, powerful limbs and weapons. Select the one that suits your purpose, there are more than 100 mods to choose from.

The robot mods have different advantages. For instance, the Sentry legs will improve the robot Companion's capacity to carry things, but will compromise its speed.

You can craft the robot mods by deploying several components such as aluminum, circuitry, rubber and ceramic to name a few. Some mods even require you to have unlocked certain perks like Blacksmith, Robotics, Armorer and Science.
