The sleek and affordable Honor 5x is about to get a whole lot better, as it's officially confirmed to get a sweet taste of Marshmallow.

The Honor 5x made its debut back in late January this year, arriving as a budget-friendly smartphone with an elegant metal body, a fingerprint scanner and a host of neat features on board.

The handset came with an attractive $199 price tag unlocked, offering a 5.5-inch full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, Adreno 405 graphics and 16 GB of internal locker space with microSD support.

Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel selfie cam and a 3,000 mAh battery that should last through the whole day on a single charge.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the Honor 5x, however, is that it runs the older Android 5.1 Lollipop flavor with Huawei's cumbersome Emotion UI 3.1 on top. The good news, however, is that Huawei's Honor brand is ready to upgrade the Honor 5x to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The company had previously promised to offer the latest Android taste, and it now confirms that it will make good on its word soon enough.

Other than the vague "soon" estimate, Huawei Honor offers no precise date or time frame for when it will actually start pushing the update. With the official announcement, however, it's safe to assume that the Honor 5x should get the treat in the coming weeks.

The latest Android flavor will bring a slew of neat features and improvements, aiming to enhance the overall experience and make everything run smoother.

Early reviewers gave the Honor 5x decent scores for its price and category but mainly criticized its software features and the OS itself. Android 6.0 Marshmallow should amount to considerable improvements, making the smartphone more attractive.

With no official release date, it's a waiting game for now. Nevertheless, Android 6.0 Marshmallow should land on the Honor 5x any day now, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as it does. If you start receiving the new software update, drop by our comment section below and tell us all about it.
