Samsung has announced a new 256 GB Evo Plus microSD card with the company's V-NAND advanced technology, which will allow users to store more UHD videos on their mobile devices.

The latest microSD card offers a reading speed of 95 MB per second and a write speed of 90 MB per second. The card can be used in smartphones, tablets, cameras and drones for recording and storing 4K UHD videos.

"With the upward trend of consumers using high-performance, high-capacity mobile devices, our new, V-NAND-based 256 GB microSD card solution allows us to deliver the memory card consumers have been craving," said Un-Soo Kim, senior vice president of Brand Product Marketing, Memory Business at Samsung. "Our EVO Plus 256 GB microSD card will provide consumers with large capacity and high read and write speeds."

The 256 GB storage allows users to record up to 12 hours of 4K video without stopping. The card is also optimized for graphic-intense videos such as virtual reality and gaming.

Evo Plus microSD card owners can save up to 55,200 images, up to 33 hours of full HD video, up to 46 hours of HD video or up to 23,500 MP3 files or songs.

Samsung highlights that the microSD card is waterproof (IEC 60529, IPX7), temperature-proof, X-ray-proof and magnetic-proof.

Samsung is offering a 10-year limited warranty on the 256 GB Evo Plus microSD card. The Korean company will start selling its new offering in the United States, China and in Europe this June at a price tag of $249.99.

Many smartphone and tablet users store a lot of media files such as music and videos. However, many devices have limited on-board storage capacity and microSD cards come to the rescue of these users.

The Evo Plus microSD card can be even more useful to Android 6.0 Marshmallow device owners. A previous Tech Times report suggests that Google does not advertise the Adoptable Storage feature of Marshmallow but this feature of the latest operating system allows device owners to use their microSD card as internal storage.

"When external storage media is adopted, it's formatted and encrypted to only work with a single Android device at a time. Because the media is strongly tied to the Android device that adopted it, it can safely store both apps and private data for all users," says Android.

MicroSD cards have become very important for many mobile device owners, but the price of the Samsung Evo Plus card is slightly dearer compared to other microSD cards available in the market. For instance, customers can purchase SanDisk's 200 GB microSD card for just $79 from Amazon.
