The latest buzz has it that Google is keen on selling its Google Glass device in optical stores.

According to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, Google is in talks with an eyewear company with regard to creating a fashionable prescription lenses version of the Google Glass.

"Google Inc.'s new computer-powered glasses haven't hit the shelves yet, but already efforts are afoot to keep them from becoming just a niche product for nerds. In a sign the eyeware industry and Google see a broader market for the technology, the Internet search giant is exploring ideas with at least one eyewear company to put the device in optometry offices around the country and create alternative designs," notes the WSJ report.

Per the report, Google is working in tandem with VSP Global, a national vision benefits provider, to bring Google Glass to optometrists' offices. However, the discussions are at the early stages and there is no formal agreement in place yet.

"VSP Global-a nationwide vision benefits provider that also makes frames and lenses-is talking with Google about making more fashionable frames for the device, developing special prescription lenses to use with Glass and training optometrists to fit the device for customers, VSP Chief Executive Rob Lynch said," per the WSJ report.

However, a TechCrunch report disputes the claim and reveals "sources close to Google" have let on that Google Glass is not in any partnership with VSP yet.

A Google spokesperson also cleared the company's stand and confirmed that it has been working on Google prescription frames and prototypes are under testing.

"We have said for some time that we are working to bring Glass prescription frames to our Explorers and we've created prototypes that members of the Glass team are actively testing. Beyond that we don't comment on rumor or speculation," revealed a Google spokesperson to TechCrunch.

The much-awaited Google Glass device lets users connect to the Internet and receive search results, scan maps for directions, video chat and read emails. However, some experts think that the Glass' current design is too geeky.

Google Glass is yet to hit the shelves, but several Explorers have been given access to test out the device.
