Those who digitally pre-purchase the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's Legacy or Legacy Pro Editions will get an extra bonus thrown in courtesy of Activision and Sony: 30-day early access to Modern Warfare Remastered.

The news comes during E3 2016, as Activision shows off more of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's space-faring single-player campaign. The special early access offer is only available to PlayStation 4 players and only for those who digitally pre-purchase one of the two special editions. It does not apply to preorders for the game. Pre-purchasing has players paying in full ahead of time; a preorder has players simply putting a small portion of the game's total cost down to reserve a copy at launch. The $79.99 Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare includes Modern Warfare Remastered, with the $99.99 Legacy Pro Edition including both Modern Warfare Remastered and the Infinite Warfare DLC season pass.

Players who pre-purchase one of the Legacy Editions will be able to play Modern Warfare Remastered starting Oct. 5, a month ahead of Infinite Warfare's Nov. 4 release date. However, the special promotion only grants players access to Modern Warfare's single-player campaign, not its multiplayer. Though the full version of the remastered game does include the classic shooter's iconic multiplayer mode and 10 maps, it will remain unplayable until Nov. 4, when servers go live.

Infinite Warfare has found itself in the middle of an ongoing internet controversy ever since the debut of the game's first trailer earlier this year. The trailer is one of the most disliked videos in YouTube history, due in part to negative fan reaction to the game's new space setting but also because Activision is preventing players from purchasing Modern Warfare Remastered without also buying the Legacy Editions of Infinite Warfare.

It appears that footage of Infinite Warfare shown during Sony's E3 press conference is going over much better than the game's reveal trailer, but it remains to be seen how players will respond to the latest entry in the franchise come the game's release date in November. It will face steep competition from a number of the heavy-hitting shooters this holiday season, including EA's Battlefield 1 and the ex-Infinity Ward-developed Titanfall 2. Both games have had a strong showing at E3, so it will ultimately come down to gamers speaking with their wallets as to which game will come out on top.
