Pokémon fans waiting for the green light on Go or the release of Sun and Moon may have something new to play in the meantime. That is if they have not already played these three DS and GameBoy Advance exclusives that are set to arrive on the Wii U's Virtual Console on Thursday, June 23.
The Nintendo DS titles Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, along with yhe GameBoy Advance game Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team arrive on June 23.
In the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, players step out of the role of trainers and explore the game world from the perspective of Pokémon. Players answer a series of questions at the beginning of the game to determine the Pokémon they will turn into.
"What if you woke up one day, and you were a Pokémon," Nintendo asks. "What if all of a sudden you find yourself in a NEW world, where you can speak and interact with other Pokémon?"
In the Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team games, players team up with other Pokémon to execute rescue missions as the world reels in the aftermath of natural disasters. Along the way, players will learn their "true purpose and destiny" as Pokémon.
In Explorers of Sky, the protagonist Pokémon and its partners set out to save the world from destruction. Things will obviously go south in this game, hence the need for a Red Rescue Team and even a Blue Rescue Team.
Explorers of Sky "is a great starting point for players to enter the world of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and for returning players to discover even more secrets."
For those who have already played the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, the wait for Pokémon Go is almost over. During its Treehouse presentation at E3, Nintendo suggested that the augmented reality game might arrive on mobile devices late next month.
During a live Q&A section of the Treehouse presentation, Shigeru Miyamoto, game designer and creative fellow at Nintendo, stated that the game could launch late in the second half of July. That's the hope of developer Niantic, The Pokémon Company and publisher Nintendo.
Miyamoto and company also revealed that the price of the Pokémon Go device will be set at around $35. The wearable - which can be clipped, strapped or tied on - will allow players to catch Pokémon on the go without having to fuss over a smartphone.
