Resident Evil fans should know that Umbrella Corps, the competitive shooter based on their beloved franchise, is out and about.

Capcom surprised everyone and, instead of launching yet another Resident Evil game, it chose to launch Umbrella Corps on June 21. The approach is so new that "Resident Evil" does not appear in the title of the shooter.

The game is a cover-reliant, three-versus-three online shooter that pits teams against one another in locations that fans of the series will quickly recognize. Umbrella Corps banks on the variety of maps based on locales belonging to the Resident Evil universe.

For example, you will fire away in the memorable Village from Resident Evil 4, where aggressive Ganados will come at you armed with farm tools. Those who have a penchant for the underground will find that The Raccoon City map makes way for players to hunt each other on the zombie-filled streets, as well as below them.

Capcom released a launch trailer where you can see some of the free DLCs coming later this year.

One map will feature the infamous Spencer Mansion, making way for fast-paced firefights among lavishly ornate interiors. Resident Evil 6's streets of Lanshiang, China, will be part of another map that is set to expand the Umbrella Corps game.

The DLC offerings come with a nice surprise in the form of new mode, dubbed 4 Survivors. The mode is a free-for-all based on classic Resident Evil games, meaning that ammo, health, and proper lighting are scarce. Players fight one another to be the last man standing on the bleak, atmospheric versions of the maps.

Umbrella Corps is available on PC and PS4, at a price point of $30.

Also, Steam and PSN are already offering premium DLC. Should you want to get the Upgrade Pack, your investment of $15 will deliver more weapons, as well as apparel and cosmetic customization.

Gamers who spend $40 for the Deluxe Edition have the Upgrade Pack included in the purchase.

Although Umbrella Corps is clearly not the game Resident Evil loyalists were anxious for, but good news came from Capcom during this year's E3. It looks like the gaming company has Resident Evil 7 in tow and it is due to come out in January 2017.
