The Vampire Diaries kicked off season 6 with bite. The gang from Mystic Falls has their sophomore year to deal with in addition to all the losses they had endured last season. For those of you who missed it, here's a rundown of what was revealed in the first episode titled "I'll Remember."

Recap, spoilers, and teasers below! Proceed at your own risk.

Elena, struggling with the loss of the love of her life, turns to witch's brew to make her think she's still talking to Damon instead of dealing with her grief. She even solicits the help of Alaric who can compel her to forget about Damon completely since he was turned by an Original vampire.

Little does Elena know that while she is on a drug-induced hallucination, the real Damon is buddying it up with Bonnie and making pancakes in flannel and plaid, as it seems, as they try to figure out where they are and how to get back to Mystic Falls.

According to Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec, the mysterious place where Damon and Bonnie are can be described with three keywords: "Familiar ... Nostalgic ... Empty."

Keep those teasers in mind until the location is revealed in episode two!

Meanwhile, other citizens of Mystic Falls are dealing with the events from the season 5 finale and getting on with their lives for the past five months.

Caroline has dropped out of school and made it her mission to reverse the spell that keeps vampires and supernaturals out of town. The potential romance with BFF Stephan is also apparently being built up even though lover boy was forced out of Mystic Falls into the bed of Ivy, a new girl. But who didn't feel the romantic tension when he smashed his phone just to avoid Caroline?

Ivy may be sticking around for a while. The scoop is she will provide a glimpse into a life for Stephan outside of Mystic Falls, which fans have never seen before. What lies ahead for Stephan the Mechanic in Savannah? Apparently, Ivy will be part of that.

And Tyler, who is human again, is trying to live a normal life in college, playing for the practice football squad and dealing with his werewolf-leftover rage issues. And he's trying hard not to show that he's hate-flirting with Liv while he downs a whole lot of brewskis.

Dealing with loss, change and starting over was the prevalent theme of the season premiere. More will be revealed when the Vampire Diaries airs next on the CW, Thursdays at 8:00 pm.
