Capcom is slowly pulling the curtain back on Resident Evil 7 in more ways than one. Just as the publisher debuted a new trailer for the game, the Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour demo on PlayStation 4 received an update. It adds a whole new area for players to explore, new items to acquire and even more mysteries for players to scratch their heads over.

So what's new in the demo? A new family photo of the Baker family has been added, showing a man, a woman and two children - one boy and one girl. The major new addition to the demo is a new room for players to explore. The room upstairs with the phone now has a hole in the wall that can be walked through, leading to a new area filled with new items.

One of those items is the celluloid hand. Players have long been trying to figure out a use for the celluloid finger found in the first version of the demo, and this seems to be it, at least in part. Players can attach the finger to the hand, but so far nobody has figured out what to do next. It's likely the true nature of the celluloid finger (and hand) won't be revealed until later, when the demo is updated once again.

In addition to the hand, players can also find the basement key (which doesn't appear to do anything quite yet). There's also handgun ammo to be found, though no actual handgun is in sight. There's also a locked window that leads to outside that is currently inaccessible.

Last but certainly not least, there's a new message on the phone answering machine. Here's what is said between the player character and a mysterious woman:

Woman: "Did you find what you were looking for?"

Player: "Who's this? And what the f--- is going on?"

Woman: "What do you mean? Everything seems fine to me. Just remember, all doors can be opened. If they couldn't, they wouldn't be doors. But some doors must remain closed, for now."

She certainly seems to be right. With the locked window and still inaccessible basement present, it seems Capcom is planning on updating the demo at least one more time before Resident Evil 7's official release on Jan. 24, 2017. No word yet on when (or if) Xbox and PC owners will get their hands on the demo. You can check out the new (and very disturbing) trailer for the game above.
