Destiny's loot cave is infamous for a reason. After the game's initial release, players began noticing that enemies would respawn extremely quickly in one specific area of the 'Old Russia' map. Players then discovered that they could exploit this for nearly unlimited loot and experience, essentially bypassing much of the game's original leveling structure. It became so popular that people would literally line up outside of the cave to stand in place and shoot at the enemies inside. Unfortunately for those players, Bungie crushed the original loot cave in a recent patch, though it seems someone may have left something behind.

By returning to the original loot cave, players are able to find a haunting message left by Bungie and the millions of dead enemy soldiers:

As soon as they enter the cave, players will find piles of charred Hive Thralls littered across the ground. Upon closer inspection, the button prompt 'Disturb the Remains' appears, and interacting with the corpses results in distorted audio and the message "A million deaths are not enough for Master Rahool."

The Easter egg is a reference to the process used by players in the loot cave: players would annihilate the low-level enemies, who would, in turn, drop Engrams. Players would then take the engrams to Master Rahool (otherwise known as the Cryptarch) in hopes that the items could be traded in for better weaponry and equipment. Before the cave's closure, it was an easy way to level up, and helped many overcome Destiny's original late-game grind.

Since then, Bungie has updated the game's loot system. Originally, Legendary engrams could be downgraded upon inspection, meaning that finding one of the extremely rare engrams could end up being a complete waste of time. Bungie changed this system in a recent patch, and ensured that engrams would only produce an item of equal or greater quality. The engrams are still incredibly hard to find, but at least players can count on actually getting something from it.

Following the original loot cave's closure, it wasn't long before players found another exploit in a similar location. For the most part, the new cave was identical to the original, and its fate was the same as its predecessor: Bungie recently shut the second loot cave down as well. One has to wonder if Bungie will continue to shut the exploits down one-by-one, or if the studio is working on a more universal solution to the glitch.

Either way, it seems that Bungie isn't above poking fun at itself.
