Up for some ghost-hunting this Halloween? Don't waste your time on cheap thrills at run-of-the mill theme park haunted houses. How about paying an overnight visit to some of these bone-chilling places around the United States that are reportedly, 100 percent haunted.

So put on your proton packs and prepare to take a tour to some of America's most haunted places...

Bell Witch Cave - Adams, Tennessee

In the 1800's, John Bell and his family were tortured and tormented for years by the Bell Witch. According to some accounts, the witch named Kate Batts - a mean old neighbor of the Bells, who was cheated by him on a land purchase, vowed to forever haunt him and his descendants on her deathbed.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum -- Weston, West Virginia

This former Weston State Hospital housed the mentally insane in the 1800's. Civil war soldiers and former patients are said to still walk the halls of the eerie dilapidated hospital to this day. The asylum officially closed in 1994, but at its peak in the 1950's, housed over 2,000 patients.

Villisca Ax Murder House -- Villisca, Iowa

The little old white frame house in the small town was the site of a horrific murder on June 10, 1912. Josiah B. Moore, his wife, and their four children, along with 2 other young girls who were just overnight guests with the family, were brutally murdered and were found with their skulls crushed as they were asleep. The murderer was never found and the entire town was on edge for months and years to follow.

The Stanley Hotel -- Estes Park, Colorado

This picturesque hotel was made famous in the silver screen as the backdrop for Jack Nicholson's murderous rampage in The Shining. However, the hotel also has its own haunted history. Guests over the years, especially during their Halloween ghost adventuring season, have reported a young boy in room 1211, or Mr. Stanley himself, showing up in the lobby or billiards room.
