Starting the day sometimes seems impossible without that early morning caffeine fix. Now coffee consumers don't need to worry about rushing to beat the Starbucks lines. The coffee giant is bringing your coffee right to your desk or door, when it rolls out its new delivery service.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced during the company's earnings call on Thursday that a delivery option will be available in select cities in the second half of next year.

"Imagine the ability to create a standing order of Starbucks delivered hot to your desk daily," Schultz said. "That's our version of e-commerce on steroids."

The delivery service feature will eventually be available as part of the company's mobile app loyalty program, which offers mobile ordering and payment that is set to roll out  in Portland, Oregon next month and nationwide next year.

While the delivery service is "moving full speed ahead" according to Starbucks Global Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ryan, the company is not offering up any other details.

The announcement comes after Starbucks' disappointing quarterly sales fell short of Wall Street expectations. For the quarter which ended Sept. 28, Starbucks' revenue was $4.18 billion, short of the $4.42 analyst predictions. However, the coffee giant says that sales rose, matching their estimated earnings on Thursday.

"We are playing offense," Schultz said.

The announcement for new delivery service is a push to get Starbucks customers to use the new app while the Seattle-based company adapts to the changing habits of consumers, specifically when it comes to online ordering.
