Gamers were excited when leaked videos on the Year of the Rooster event of Overwatch revealed that a Capture the Flag mode would be coming to the multiplayer shooter.

With Year of the Rooster now in full swing and the new mode, aptly named Capture the Rooster, accessible, players have been given the first glimpse on how a Capture the Flag mode will work in Overwatch.

For players who are having a tough time winning games in Capture the Rooster, or are simply looking for additional strategies, here are a few tips to beat opposing teams in Overwatch's first Capture the Flag mode.

Best Heroes To Use In Capture The Rooster

The first heroes to come to mind in a mode that favors speed are Tracer and Genji, and these two characters are among the best ones to use in Capture the Rooster. Their abilities allow Tracer and Genji to quickly maneuver through opponents in capturing the flag and bringing it back to their base.

On the other end of the spectrum, focusing on defending the team's flag, is Symmetra. She can drop six turrets to protect the passageway to the team's base, and that will be effective enough to tear opponents to shreds. In a similar vein, Torbjorn can offer the same protection if he is able to get his turrets set up.

Limiting the effectiveness of the turrets of Symmetra and Torbjorn, however, is Sombra, whose Hack skill can disable them. Her Translocator skill can also come in handy to escape to safety once she captures the enemy flag.

However, the near-consensus best hero to bring victory to the team in Capture the Rooster is Winston, whose ultimate will make it very easy to bring back a captured flag to the team's base. Players will be able to spam Winston's massive jump and can put up a shield bubble when capturing the enemy flag to avoid interruptions.

Other Capture The Rooster Tips

As with any mode in Overwatch, communication between team members is key to winning the match. If a teammate is able to capture the flag of the opposing team, he or she should be supported by teammates in order to bring it back to their base to score points.

Teams should be balanced with defensive and offensive characters. A team with too much defense might prevent the team from scoring points but will also fail to capture the flag, while a team with too much offense might be able to score points in a hurry but will not be able to stop opponents from scoring faster.

Teams who are confident in their defense can choose to all stay back at their base to protect their flag once they have a comfortable lead, as aside from scoring three points, teams can win in Capture the Rooster by scoring the most points once the timer runs out after seven minutes.

Capture The Flag In Overwatch

Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan revealed that it was not easy to bring a Capture the Flag mode to the game due to balancing issues. With all the work that the team placed in the mode, there is the possibility that it will be brought back to Overwatch in the future after the Year of the Rooster event ends.
