Nokia along with HMD global is trying to regain the footing the renowned manufacture had back in its day. Nokia, if a recent rumor is to be believed, is trying to use nostalgia to revive its famous N-series phones.

Although the news may sound very exciting given that the N-series was hugely popular, the rumor should be taken with a pinch of salt. The last N series phone was the Meego-based N9 model which was followed by the Nokia N950.

The Nokia N950, however, was a developer-based smartphone and was not launched for mass retail.

N-Series To See A MWC Launch?

The origin of the rumors were traced back to China were an image leaked showing a couple of handsets with N-series inscribed on the table. The rumors also claim that the first smartphone of the N-series, which was Nokia's original flagship lineup, will be a mid-range smartphone having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6XX processor on board. It is also suggested that the phone may get unveiled at Nokia's Mobile World Congress (MWC) event on Feb. 26.

The rumor takes a confusing turn here on.  A Qualcomm Snapdragon 6XX processor is ideally used for a mid-range smartphone, which cannot be used in a N-series device given the fact that it happens to be a former flagship of Nokia.

The rumors also claim that the supposed N-series handset is already being mass produced and the company, is targeting to produce 50 million units as its first batch. Given the fact that HMD Global is a new company in the field of smartphone manufacturing, achieving the said target will be quite a feat.

The rumor has not been backed by any other leaks or an official statement from Nokia or HMD Global so far.

N950 To Debut At MWC?

The last phone from N-series that the world saw was N950 back in 2011. The handset sported a 4-inch LCD display and came with an attached QWERTY keypad. N950 was never launched for the public and was unveiled as a developer only model.

With rumors pertaining to the revival of Nokia N-series, it can be expected that a smartphone similar to N950 may be launched by the company.

Nokia Smartphones Gain Success

Nokia 6, the first Android smartphone made by Nokia in partnership with HMD Global was launched in China in January and was hugely successful with the masses.

The phone sold out under a minute in flash sales organized in China. Although the smartphone is yet to be launched in other parts of the world, Nokia expects similar demand for the handset in other parts of the world.

Nokia is also expected to unveil the purported Nokia P1, an Android-powered smartphone at the MWC.
