Hold on tight — Team17 is blasting you into space for its next big game.

Team17, the developer behind the massively successful Worms franchise announced its partnership with German developer Radiation Blue to develop and publish Genesis Alpha One, a sci-fi game powered by Unreal 4 game engine for Windows PC and console. The game is a mix of base building, first-person shooter, survival, and roguelike genres.

Radiation Blue is a new indie game developer comprised of veterans who developed hit games such as Spec Ops: The Line, The Settlers, SpellForce 3, Hitman: Blood Money, and Hitman: Contracts. Genesis Alpha One is currently under development, although a reveal trailer has been released with the announcement.

'Genesis Alpha One': Humanity's Last Hope

According to Team17 official page, Genesis Alpha One is a set in the "near future ravaged by wars." Earth's natural resources have been depleted and devastated, thanks to the "over-exploitation and pollution" caused by humanity's "corrupt regimes and global capitalism."

As societies collapse and humanity dies slowly, the Earth's remaining governments and "four influential corporations" begin the "Genesis program."

You as the player takes the role of the Captain of the Genesis starship. Your goal is to "find new homes for humanity's DNA" and ultimately "save the species from extinction."

You as the captain will explore the boundless space while acquiring, farming and managing resources, maintaining your space vessel, "cloning creatures," dealing with "terrifying alien infestations," continuing the Genesis program, and ultimately saving humanity and finding a new place in a "vast, randomly generated universe."

Team17 And Radiation Blue Collaborate

Team17 made the announcement via Twitter, posting the reveal trailer with the line: "Humankind's last chance to save our species ... Is to create new ones. #GenesisAlphaOne "

According to its official press release, Team17 collaborated with Radiation Blue because of the latter's "incredibly talented individuals" with amazing credentials and "track record in AAA games development."

"Genesis Alpha One offers gamers a unique blend of genres in a stunning sci-fi setting and we are thrilled to be able to help them on their journey," said Debbie Bestwick, Team17 CEO.

Creative Director of Radiation Blue Sascha Jungnickel said that their studio is likewise "excited to work with Team7" on the development of Genesis Alpha One. Jungnickel praised Team17's "passion for games," as well as their "transparent developer friendly procedures."

Team17 previously teamed up with a second party, Ocean Software, in 1995 to develop its best-selling franchise, Worms, which remains successful to this day.

This track record bids well for Radiation Blue, who confessed to playing Team17 games like Worms and Alien Breed back "when we were kids." This played a major role in the studio's decision to team up.

"Today, with this partnership, things have come full circle which is incredibly exciting," Jungnickel said.
