Believe it or not, Suicide Squad has the same number of Oscar awards as Leonardo DiCaprio.

The 2016 blockbuster hit from DC Extended Universe, or the DCEU, took home the Academy Award for Best Hair and Makeup in the just-concluded 2017 Oscars. It beat out A Man Called Ove and Star Trek Beyond to snag the golden statuette.

The 89th Academy Awards was held on Feb. 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Suicide Squad's win was not the only surprising "incident" in this annual gala. A confusion arose during the announcement of the Best Picture Award. Media-favorite La La Land was mistakenly announced as the winner when it was Moonlight that actually won.

'Suicide Squad' Checks The #SquadGoals

Makeup artist Alessandro Bertolazzi, together with fellow makeup artists Giorgio Gregorini and Christopher Nelson, accepted the award in behalf of the movie's cast and crew. The award is the first for the three.

In his speech. Bertolazzi dedicated the award to all immigrants, a clear dig at President Donald Trump's controversial immigration ban in the United States. Bertolazzi himself is Italian.

"I'm from Italy, I work around the world. This is for all the immigrants," he said.

Director David Ayer expressed his congratulations via Twitter.

"Congratulations to my amazing and talented make-up and hair team on Suicide Squad! #Oscars," Ayer posted.

The trophy may be the first Oscar win for DCEU, but it is not the first time that a DC movie won. The most famous probably is the late Heath Ledger's 2009 Best Supporting Actor Award, which was given posthumously. Ledger won for his role as the iconic Joker in The Dark Knight, which also won the Best Sound Editing award in that same year.

Tim Burton's 1989 Batman won a statuette for Best Art Direction. Superman also won, with Richard Donner winning a Special Achievement Award for Visual Effects. Moreover, Batman Begins, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Superman Returns all had Oscar nominations.

The 'Squad' Wins An Oscar, The Internet Loses Its Mind

Suicide Squad, although a box office hit, is panned negatively by critics. This is why the Oscar win brought the internet into frenzy. Here are some of the reactions from personalities via Twitter.

"We now live in a world where Donald Trump is President of the United States and Suicide Squad is an Oscar award winning film. Thanks #Oscars," Celloist David Chen tweeted.

"Who's laughing now?! #Oscars," said the ComicBook Now alongside a pic of a laughing Joker.

Meanwhile, Funny or Die poked fun at La La Land with a tweet.

"'La La Land' FINALLY tied 'Suicide Squad' for #Oscars."
