The Nokia 9 has not yet been officially unveiled, but rumors describe the upcoming smartphone as a device that might push Nokia back to relevance in the smartphone industry that it once dominated.

HMD Global, the company which now owns the manufacturing and selling rights for Nokia devices, has kept the details of the Nokia 9 a secret. However, there have been many leaks and rumors attached to the device, with the latest one hinting that the Nokia 9 will have a feature that has never been seen in other smartphones.

Nokia 9 Geekbench Score Leaks

A Geekbench score of a device labeled the Unknown Heart recently surfaced online. The name is widely considered as the codename of HMD Global for the Nokia 9.

A look through the specifications listed in the Geekbench score reveals mostly the same details as what FrAndroid recently reported when it was given permission to have a hands-on look at the Nokia 9. The smartphone is shown to be powered by Android 7.1.1 Nougat and a 1.90 GHz octa-core processor, believed to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835.

However, there is a very notable difference in the spotted Geekbench score compared to the details that FrAndroid acquired. While the Nokia 9 prototype showed RAM of only 4 GB, the spotted Geekbench score for the Nokia 9 revealed an 8 GB of RAM.

If the leaked specification is true, the Nokia 9 will be the first smartphone with 8 GB of RAM. There have been rumors that the OnePlus 5 will also offer as much as 8 GB of RAM, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Nokia 9 With 8 GB Of RAM?

Most flagship smartphones currently offer 4 GB of RAM, with certain models pushing the specification up to 6 GB of RAM. This is particularly the case in the lucrative Chinese smartphone market, where powerful specifications spell the difference between a middling device and a best-seller.

If the Nokia 9 will indeed come with 8 GB of RAM, it will at the very least turn heads due to a specification that has only been previously seen on decent laptops. The specification may also boost the Nokia 9's appeal in China, and if it does well in the Asian market, the rise of the Nokia brand back to relevance may be hastened.

However, Nokia fans should not yet celebrate. The spotted Geekbench scores for the Nokia 9 were relatively low, with only 615 for single-core tests and 1116 for multi-core tests. For a device with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and 8 GB of RAM, the expected score should be around 2000 for single-core tests and 6000 for multi-core tests, which is what Samsung's Galaxy S8 scores.

The 8 GB of RAM specification for the Nokia 9 may turn out to be false, or there could be an explanation for the low scores on the Geekbench listing. However, we will not know for sure until HMD Global releases the official details of the highly anticipated flagship smartphone.

So far, in addition to the rumored specifications, all we have are unconfirmed design sketches for the smartphone, along with a possible price and release window for the Nokia 9.
