The next Titanfall 2 DLC, named Operation Frontier Shield, will add a variety of new things to the game, including a four-player cooperative horde mode named Frontier Defense.

Titanfall 2 may not have met Electronic Arts' sales targets, but developer Respawn Entertainment continues to work on the free DLC that has been promised for the game.

New 'Titanfall 2' Mode: Frontier Defense

Respawn revealed Operation Frontier Shield, the next free Titanfall 2 DLC, in an official blog post that detailed what players can expect from the July 25 update.

The most important addition from Operation Frontier Shield to Titanfall 2 is the Frontier Defense mode, which is a four-player cooperative mode that requires teammates to work together to defend a Harvester against hordes of enemies. Teams will need to survive against five waves of opponents, with each wave being stronger than the last one. In between waves, players will be able to spend cash that they acquire from defeating enemies to acquire tools that will help in their mission, including Sentries, Arc Traps, and Batteries.

Players will be able to earn Aegis Ranks by completing Frontier Defense matches, leading to powerful upgrades for Titans to help overcome the mode's higher difficulty levels. There will be five difficulty levels for Frontier Defense, namely Easy, Regular, Hard, Master, and Insane, though the last one will be highlighted as a Featured Mode. The new mode will also introduce new enemy types and will support five maps at launch: Homestead, Forwardbase Kodai, War Games, Blackwater Canal, and the new Rise.

Operation Frontier Shield DLC: Other Contents

The new Frontier Defense mode is not the only thing included in the Operation Frontier Shield DLC. The aforementioned Rise, a map that takes place in an abandoned desert reservoir, will also be added through the update. It is actually a remastered map from the original Titanfall.

Also coming to Titanfall 2 with the update is Township, another new map that is designed for the Live Fire mode that pits Pilots against Pilots. The map resembles a residential area with wide open spaces, but with many houses to hide in.

Respawn also redesigned the Titanfall 2 in-game store to make it easier for players to check out new releases and sales. The DLC will also be adding new Elite Warpaints for weapons and Titans, with the bundle of the new Elite Warpaints for weapons and those for Titans only available until Aug. 28.

Respawn will also hold a free trial for Titanfall 2 from July 28 to July 30 to try to attract more players to the mech shooter's community. The developer also noted that mobile strategy game Titanfall Assault is nearing completion.
