Knights of the Frozen Throne, the latest expansion for Blizzard's massively popular trading card game Hearthstone, is set to arrive next week.

The launch of Knights of the Frozen Throne will end the wait for Hearthstone players who have been looking forward to the new card types and mechanics that the expansion will offer.

Knights Of The Frozen Throne To Launch Aug. 10

The launch date of Knights of the Frozen Throne was confirmed by Blizzard through a tweet, revealing that the expansion will be released to Hearthstone on Aug. 10.

Knights of the Frozen Throne will add 135 new cards to the digital trading card game and will mark the first time that two full-size expansions will arrive to Hearthstone in a row. Blizzard made the announcement earlier in the year that for Hearthstone's Year of the Mammoth, it will be dropping the 45-card Adventures previously released in the middle of the year in favor of another expansion. Knights of the Frozen Throne is the second out of the three expansions planned this year, following the dinosaur-themed Journey to Un'Goro.

What Do We Know About Knights Of The Frozen Throne?

The title of the expansion will be a familiar one for longtime Warcraft fans, with its theme revolving around the Frozen Throne and Prince Arthas's transformation into the Lich King.

Unlike previous expansions, Knights of the Frozen Throne will feature a story mode that will include a prologue, two wings featuring three boss fights each, and a final boss.

Knights of the Frozen Throne will introduce a new mechanic called Lifesteal, which will heal players for the amount of damage that cards with the keyword deals. The mechanic can be found in both minions and spells, and players believe that it will help the survivability of control decks against aggressive starts by their opponents.

The new expansion will also introduce a new card type in the form of Hero cards. These expensive legendary cards, once played, will launch a powerful Battlecry and transform the player's Hero into a Death Knight version of themselves while also changing the player's Hero power.

Players who would like to get a head start in adding Knights of the Frozen Throne cards to their collections can still avail a special pre-purchase price of $49.99 for 50 packs of the expansion, which can be opened upon its launch. The offer, however, can only be availed once per account.

More than half of the cards from the expansion have been revealed, with more likely to be spoiled as the launch of Knights of the Frozen Throne draws nearer.
