Warner Bros. has announced that Jason Fuchs, the writer of Pan, will pen the script for the upcoming Wonder Woman film. He's expected to join Michelle MacLaren and star Gal Gadot as the team prepares to bring the heroine to the big screen for the first time in 2017.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fuchs is in talks with Warner Bros. to pen the screenplay, and it is highly likely that Warner Bros. will use him. The 2017 Wonder Woman movie will take place in the same universe as Batman v Superman and is expected to be set in the 1920s.

Fuchs is only 28, and his most notable work so far that is the upcoming 2015 movie, Pan. The film, the story of an orphan who is spirited away to Neverland for magical adventures, is still far away from being released, but already moviegoers are excited. It stars Levi Miller as Pan and Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard. The director, Michelle MacLaren, is the second woman to direct a superhero film and the first to direct one of this magnitude. She is mainly known for her work on several Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and The Walking Dead episodes.

MacLaren is a part of the project primarily because Warner Bros. actively sought out female directors to take the film in the right direction, and to push the empowerment of women in the world.

On the matter of Fuchs, he's expected to work with Warner Bros. for quite some time. The studio is already thinking about a sequel to Pan, even though the first film won't be released until July 17, 2015.

Can Jason Fuchs do Wonder Woman justice?

We'll have a better idea after Pan hits theaters next summer. If the film turns out to be a masterpiece, then we can say for sure that Wonder Woman is in the right hands where the screenplay is concerned. If not, then the film and Warner Bros. will have some serious problems.

Wonder Woman is one of the most important characters in the DC universe, so there is no room for failure. Her first solo outing must be a success, if even a small one in order for the DC cinematic universe to continue taking shape, granted that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad performs well at the box office.
