The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will get an update to Android 8.0 Oreo in mid-May, and it's not just a rumor this time — it's officially confirmed.

Just last week, news broke out that the two smartphones could be getting a taste of Oreo in May, but nothing was confirmed at the time. The information was considered unreliable because the same source had previously pegged the update rollout for an earlier date, so there was no guarantee that it would be accurate this time.

The company posted new details on its Members app for South Korean customers. It noted the rollout time for Oreo updates scheduled for a number of devices, including the Galaxy S7 line.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge may not be the newest flagships anymore, with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9 lines out and about, but they're still powerful devices with plenty to offer.

The hardware still packs a punch, and the software is about to get a major boost with Android 8.0 Oreo on its way. Samsung does not list a specific date for when the update will start rolling out, but mid-May means that it should not be more than two weeks away.
