I would imagine that one of the main draws of launching into space would be to see some awe-inspiring sites that most people will never experience in their lifetime. Heck, that's why I would go into space.

Luckily, as technology gets more and more advanced, you don't have to take a rocketship up into the Final Frontier to see all the wonders it has to offer. Sure, it would be nice, but are you really going to spend years and years studying and training to get up there, not to mention live off of dried food for several months at a time? I don't think so.

I'm sorry if I dampened your spirits a bit, but this news will surely cheer you up. German astronaut Alexander Gerst has just released a timelapse video that shows what he saw outside his window for six months during the "Blue Dot" mission on the International Space Station. And you're going to want to hold onto your hats for this one. With a multi-colored, glowing layer of light above the earth and a smooth, dubstep-like soundtrack, this six-minute video might just be the trippiest thing you will ever see. Well, today at least. I just want this to be my screensaver. Always.

Of course, you see a lot of the International Space Station itself in the video, which takes you back down to Earth, so to speak. However, much of this video really does look unreal. Don't believe me? Watch the aurora at the 05:28 mark, and then we'll talk.

Blink, and you might miss one of the 12,500 images Gerst has put in the video, taken when he would leave his camera running as he worked and performed experiments. You can see the rest of the photos he took of his space travels over on his Flickr page. Vox also made some nice GIFs of the video to entertain you.

It seems like we're seeing more of space and getting more access to it than ever before. As you may recall, Gerst's colleague, American astronaut Reid Wiseman, found his bit of Internet fame after posting some amazing photos and Vines from space on his Twitter account. Gerst and Wiseman even landed back on Earth together. Give these two their own buddy comedy or reality show, already! The world is waiting for it.

Check out the full timelapse video below, and see if you can spot where you live on Earth.
