When people think of Salma Hayek, they don't think action heroine. That's not a slight against Hayek's talents, it's just that she's never really taken the lead in a huge, explosive action movie. The actress has indeed starred in action films, but Wild Wild West isn't exactly worth talking about, much less the defining film of her career...and over the past few years, her filmography hasn't exactly gotten much better, either.

That being said, Hayek has been hard at work on Everly, a new action movie that seems determined to take Die Hard's crown. There are plenty of explosions, high-powered weaponry and slow-motion shots. It certainly doesn't look like the smartest flick out there, but that's definitely not a bad thing:

Hayek stars as a prostitute-turned-gunslinger who's forced to fight her way through assassins, Yakuza and rocket launchers in order to create a new life for her young daughter. Again, it's not the deepest plot you'll ever run across, but the number of different guns Hayek wields is more than enough to get any action junkie excited...and her outfit isn't half-bad, either.

Everly could also be a boost to Hayek's career. While the actress is certainly never aching for work, the last few films she's starred in haven't been Oscar-worthy, either. Anyone with Grown Ups 2 on their resume could definitely use a pick-me-up, and Everly could be exactly that.

Hey, if it worked for Liam Neeson, why couldn't it work for Salma Hayek?

Everly is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical debut on Feb. 27, 2015.
