Humans have been solving problems for hundreds of years, but in the past couple of decades, we experienced the most significant boom known to man. Healthcare, transport, and communication is continually being updated, and innovation is the new norm. In a smaller scale, everything we use will become better and faster every few years.

While technological advances pose new threats, developers are using this opportunity to create new security measures for every aspect of our lives. Now, we can protect our information, our finances, our homes, and ourselves - sometimes all in a click of a button.

Company Security

Technology is changing the way business is done, but also how it is attacked. Businesses take the necessary measures against cyber risks, but sometimes the threat is an inside job. Researchers from the National Retail Federation show that 92% of companies in their survey experienced organized retail crime in 2018.

Loss prevention starts with screening employees as the first defense. An advanced background check is used to vet potential employees but can extend to personal safety precautions against unfamiliar individuals.

Home Security

According to the PWC Report Smart Home, Seamless Life, 75% of consumers are willing to pay more for additional security features. Now home security is integrating property security systems to a smart home device or mobile phone. With smart homes, users can control what they see, deny unauthorized personnel, and lock the property remotely.

Home security has reinforced the weakest points of a home. The traditional lock and key have been replaced by fingerprint, code, and facial recognition. Alarm and camera systems are easily monitored by our phones from hundreds of miles away. Burglars are drawn to easy targets, often preventing a break-in from occurring at all.

Personal Security

With the emergence of social media, privacy is one of our primary concerns. We are more vulnerable to accidentally posting information that we didn't intend to make public. Luckily, online platforms and banking are doubling down on cyberthreats and privacy concerns users may have.

In terms of personal safety, the game has changed. Applications are available for users that want to travel and get home safely. Now, phone apps locate the shortest and best-lit pathways for users. It also creates a buddy system with selected contacts so that they can keep track of the user until they arrive at their destination.

Bottom Line

There is no better time than now to learn about current technological advances and how we benefit from it. As soon as we begin to understand its current potential, it will have evolved again to contribute to safer lives and communication.
