One of the most popular social media platforms in this day and age is Tiktok, as it grows in popularity, starting from the younger generation to the older generations as well. Just this Wednesday, the CEO of Reddit, named Steve Huffman, could no longer keep his tongue shut as he called the popular application "fundamentally parasitic," which caused a feud between the two social media platforms. Reddit has already existed for a period of time, while Tiktok, on the other hand, is a new upcoming application.

TikTok versus Reddit

Reddit's CEO Steve Huffman could not control his tongue

The owner of Reddit, Steve Huffman, displayed strong disagreement with the statement that young Silicon Valley startups could learn a thing or two from this application. According to Steve, this app is parasitic because of the fact that it is always listening and gathering sensitive information of its users while they blindly allow this to happen to them. Huffman himself keeps on reminding people not to put spyware on your personal phones as this is a huge security risk that Huffman is passionate about, thus Reddit.

Reddit versus Tiktok

Reddit is a platform where users may choose to hide their identification which than prompts a more honest and secure conversation without users having to worry about certain factors that may incriminate them or be used against them. Reddit supports freedom of speech and gives users the ability to exercise this freedom. Tiktok, on the other hand, is a platform where people record videos that give away full identification as well as use the fingerprint technology to identify users proper.

Although the app is reported to be data-mining the identity of citizens, users voluntarily participate in this application and give away their own identity without thinking of the consequences that this may entail. Identification software has already been a sketchy topic, and just recently, Facebook had to pay up a $550 million fine for using facial recognition, but it seems as if since users of TikTok voluntarily give their faces up, they are free from legal responsibility.

TikTok's response to this allegation

According to TikTok's spokesperson, these allegations of TikTok being fundamentally parasitic are pure accusations without any base or shred of evidence. These comments were made during the "Social 2030" which is a one-day conference that gathers both Silicon Valley investors and entrepreneurs in one singular venue to discuss how the next decade would go.

There were some notable innovations being recognized by Lessin of Lessin's VC firm Slow Ventures, but Huffman stood his ground and offered his honest and deep criticisms regarding this very application. Cybersecurity and safeguarding your personal identity is one of the most important things to be updated on in this day and age with the evolution of technology into the digital direction. Reddit's CEO, Steve Huffman, commented on how TikTok does not safeguard the identity and privacy of its users, in which against Reddit's policy.
