Today, Mar. 19, Los Angeles County has finally declared emergency 'safer-at-home' order to all residents of the state and forces everyone to stay in the comfort of their homes. This means that only necessary establishments will be open starting on Friday, Mar. 20 until April 19. All residents of the Southern California will be tasked to keep themselves inside their homes in order to curb the continuous spread of the deadly Coronavirus disease.

As announced via Twitter by Los Angeles County Mayor Eric Garcetti, there is now a need for this emergency order to command all citizens of the state to only stay in the comfort of their homes.

"I'm issuing a Safer at Home emergency order - ordering all residents of @LACity to stay inside their homes and immediately limit all nonessential movement. We're taking this urgent action to limit the spread of COVID-19 and save lives," said him.

More than 10 million people are currently residing at this part of United States and they are all ordered to stay at home unless there is an emergency or absolute necessary reason of going out on purpose.

"The order is the next step to protecting our residents from the coronavirus by increasing our social distancing," Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger told reporters. "We know that staying at home and decreasing contact is the best way to halt the spread."

Just like other states and countries, there are exemptions of this order. People will only be allowed to leave their homes for "essential activities" like picking up food or groceries, going to the doctor or taking a walk in their neighborhood.

If you need to go to healthcare operations, grocery stores, shelters, media outlets, gas stations, banks and restaurants, the rule is only for takeout and delivery. All residents must follow this order, according to the county.

Mayor Garcetti reiterated that this is not a request to all their citizens but an order for them to follow.

"We're about to enter into a new way of living here in Los Angeles, for a period," said Mayor Eric Garcetti. "This is not shelter in place like a school shooting this is stay at home because you're safer at home. This is not a request. This is an order."

Aside from L.A., other nearby six additional Bay Area counties also told residents to "shelter in place," which means unless your work falls under the list of "essential businesses," people should stay in their homes.
