The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on almost every business around the world. These times can make it harder to get work done or have a positive attitude about life. Interior decorator Desiree Busnelli has worked hard to devise a strategy to make the best of this challenging situation.

Desiree Busnelli was mentored by Emanuele Busnelli while he was the CEO of B&B Italia. She has worked with him to create several international interior design projects. After going independent, Desiree set-up her own office at JECHIJO Bespoke Designs right outside of Milan, Italy.

However, she's currently staying at her home in California to homeschool her two young children due to the pandemic. "I'm secretly loving spending more time with them," Busnelli said. "Spending extra time with your kids during the pandemic can help you get closer together. I know it's helped my family and me."

Desiree thinks an attitude like this is one of the most important things about getting through the pandemic. "No matter how hard the times get, let your positivity shine through," she said. "Practice self-love and choose to stay in a state of mind that makes you strong and full of joy."

Busnelli has been working independently for years now. Many people are turning to independent work during the pandemic because they've lost their jobs, and Desiree thinks that's a great decision. "Working for yourself can be fulfilling and empowering," she said. "Don't hate it simply because you weren't expecting to fall into it. Work hard and try to make your ideas come to life. The current situation is just like an interior designing project; it's hard to know exactly how things will look until it's all put together."

Of course, missing people is one of the most difficult parts of the pandemic. "I'm really looking forward to being reunited with the rest of my extended family once this is all over, including my sisters and my niece and nephew. Right now, we're keeping in touch using lots of Zoom calls and letting the kids have playdates online. It's not the same, but it will help us get by until we can be back together again."

If your business is having trouble during the pandemic, Desiree has some advice. "You need to keep a positive state of mind," she said. "It's easy to let the world drag you down, especially when things are this uncertain out there. Being positive will make it easier for you to get your work done and try new things. It'll also draw people towards you, as well as towards the products or services you're offering."

Although the COVID-19 pandemic is making life harder around the world, Desiree Busnelli knows it's still possible to thrive.
