If the thought of NVIDIA's 2080 Ti has been a conscientious issue making it hard to justify the $1,000 graphics card, the NVIDIA RTX 3070 makes the decision making much easier at a lower $499.

The said gaming GPU will be a much better buy than the previous RTX 3080 at $699 when it comes to practicality and this can deliver an amazing performance with a whopping 240Hz monitors as well as 4K gaming as well.

An article by Engadget said that the 3070s design is pretty much like the 3080 design with dual fans, one exhausting air outside of the case while another pulling air inwards. The 3070 is said to be just a few inches shorter than the previous 3080 allowing it to fit in much tighter cases. NVIDIA also made use of the micro 12-pin power connector in order to make room for more space.

Pros and Cons

The pros are the following:

  • Speed is the same as the NVIDIA 2080 Ti

  • Has the same solid ray tracing performance

  • Has an excellent cooling under load

  • Is much more affordable at $200 cheaper than the 2080 Ti

Cons:

  • Might be a bit too loud

Worth the investment or not?

NVIDIA's known new mid-range GPU definitely delivers about the same performance just like the last-gen's flagship, the known RTX 2080 Tim but just at half the price. This is an ideal upgrade for certain 1,440p as well as 4K gaming with the ray tracing.

The most important feature, however, is that it is powered by exactly 5,888 CUDA cores, 46 RT cores for ray tracing, and 184 tensor AI cores. The previous RTX 2070 only had 2,304 CUDA cores as well as 36 RT cores. The older cards did have more tensor cores at 288 versus the current NVIDIA RTX 3070's 184. NVIDIA, however, says the newer cores function faster as well as more efficient.

The decision would still depend on the practicality of the GPU and if it is an absolute need. Although it is much more affordable than the RTX 3090 or even the RTX 2070 in comparion, it is still a $499 graphics card which is still a huge amount of money.

Downside of NVIDIA RTX 3070 and improvements that don't make a difference

The only major downside when comparing the RTX 3070 and the RTX 2070 Ti is that the 3070 only runs on 8GB RAM while the 2080 Ti's gets a whopping 11GB RAM.

NVIDIA also gives the assurance that the NVIDIA RTX 3070 will be able to perform 20.3 shared teraflops as well as 39.7 ray tracing teraflops. These are both measurements dictating its overall computing capability. For further comparison, the said 2070 can only hit 7.9 shader teraflops as well as 23.8 RT teraflops.

This is an impressive improvement for NVIDIA's 3000-series GPUs. However, according to Engadget, the teraflop numbers are actually meaningless.
