Wearable technology is not a new phenomenon in the world as millions of people around the globe use fitness trackers, smartwatches, and so on. In fact, it has become a billion-dollar business unto itself and is only on track to expand as time goes on. Part of this expansion is the creation of sub-niches within the wearable technology sector and the increased focus on specific demographics.

For a long time, wearable technology, specifically those that were focused on health, offered a one-size-fits-all approach to their consumers but this is fast changing.

Bellabeat Introduces Ivy

Bellabeat is an innovative San Francisco-based company that is all about using technology to improve the lives of its consumers. The company is known for helping women by producing individual data regarding their menstrual cycles to curate specific wellness programs for each customer to ensure the best results. Their mission, in essence, is to close the wellness gap that exists by ensuring that women receive as much care as they give, considering that women make up a majority of the caregivers in the world.

In light of this vision, the company has announced a brand-new product, the Ivy. This smart wrist band is not only beautiful, but it also tracks a number of vital metrics that are displayed in real time. Furthermore, using algorithms and the brand's mobile app, Ivy analyzes this data to provide its wearers with precious tips to improve their health, fitness, and productivity.

In terms of heart rate, both the resting heart rate and heart rate variability are recorded by the device every minute. This is in addition to the respiratory rate, both when the user is awake during the day and asleep at night. Furthermore, it tracks the body temperature of the user, noting any changes during use.

Interestingly, Ivy also works as a valuable sleep tool as it measures light deep and REM sleep phases while taking into account the sleep times, duration, and the overall quality of sleep. These metrics are not only tracked, but a full report and overview are available to users via their Bellabeat account.

This report shows the user any changes that have taken place in their metrics and alerts them of significant shifts. For example, if their temperature spikes or blood oxygen level drop, they will be informed as this can be symptoms of poor health.

High-end tracking capabilities

As daily habits are tracked, Ivy determines markers for optimum health and tracks the recovery of the user from illness. Overall, the device works by tracking three primary scores which are readiness, Sleep, and activity. Readiness and activity are measured during the day while sleep is measured at night.

It aids workouts by determining the number of calories burned in a session and helps to optimize them. Those who have used the Ivy thus far have reported a reduced Resting Heart Rate (RHR) by 4.4 BPM and an increased Heart Rate Variability (HRV) by 8 milliseconds.

Additionally, testers of Ivy have also reported improved sleep, with users adding 41 minutes to their daily sleep sessions and 60% fewer injuries reported by users. Thanks to Ivy's 24-hour continuous tracking and constant data backing, no valuable information is lost.

Fortunately, for the fashion-lovers, Ivy has a sleek appearance with a slim strap and a number of colorful face designs that look like gemstones. As such, they are no immediately noticeable as wearable technology and can be added effortlessly to a wide variety of clothing options.

The future of wearable technology is one that is more niche, inclusive, and aesthetical-pleasing. From all indications, the Ivy will provide this and much more.
