SAN ANSELMO, CALIFORNIA - MAY 14: The WhatsApp messaging app is displayed on an Apple iPhone on May 14, 2019 in San Anselmo, California. Facebook owned messaging app WhatsApp announced a cybersecurity breach that makes users vulnerable to malicious spyware installation iPhone and Android smartphones. WhatsApp is encouraging its 1.5 billion users to update the app as soon as possible.

This means that Signal uses encryption by default. It is also based on open-source standards. The app's users can send messages and receive them without the operator accessing the chatbox.
Elon Musk is known for criticizing Facebook. This can be seen in his latest tweet.

"This is called a domino effect," he said via his official Twitter account.

He posted the tweet on Thursday, Jan. 7. He expressed a lack of surprise regarding WhatsApp's new Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. The new update states that the WhatsApp users' sharing data will be returned to Facebook.

The new rules and regulations also confirmed that the new change will be mandatory for all users of the platform.

What should you do when using Signal?

According to TechCrunch's latest report, people should do one important thing if they decided to use Signal. They should always enable the app's disappearing messages option.

This feature will add an additional layer of protection for both the sender and receiver. All of the source code of Signal is published for anyone to examine and use under an AGPLv3 license for the server and a GPLv3 license for clients.

This feature allows people to see what is going on inside the app. That's why it is really important to activate its disappearing messages feature.

Signal's advantage over WhatsApp

According to Wired UK's latest report, Signal has less potential for hidden vulnerabilities. WhatsApp is a larger app compared to Signal. This means that Signal's competitor invites more malicious attackers to target its platform.

On the other hand, Signal is a more updated app compared to WhatsApp, especially when it comes to security features. Signal always receive new security updates, unlike WhatsApp. This can be seen in its disappearing messages option, which is currently unavailable in its competitor app.
WhatsApp doesn't have encrypted profiles, an incognito keyboard switch for Android, backups, and view-once media messages.
