A Tesla car drives past the building home to German vaccine maker CureVac on September 1, 2020 in Tubingen, Germany. Tesla head Elon Musk announced on Twitter that he is traveling to Germany and plans to visit both CureVac, with which Tesla has a cooperation to build devices for producing RNA vaccines, and the site of the new Gigafactory under construction near Berlin this week.

Previously, Tesla revealed that the original Model Y lineup would have a standard range rear-wheel-drive version in 2019. However, Elon Musk changed their plan after announcing in 2020 that the tech giant company will no longer make that kind of model since the range would be unacceptably low.

However, the company suddenly change its plan since Tesla decided to lower the EV's price considerably. As of the moment, Tesla's official website is offering Model Y for at least around $42,000 or $40,500 before potential savings.

Available Model Y versions

According to Yahoo Finance's latest report, the only available options previously were the performance versions and the long-range dual-motor all-wheel drive. However, these Model Y cars are pretty expensive since they cost $49,990.

However, Tesla is decided to release the new standard rear-wheel drive range. This version has a shorter range, running at 244 miles.

The cheap Model Y version is still a great choice since it exceeds Tesla's expected range, which is 230 miles. Right now, the company said that the deliveries would take within two to five weeks.

As of the moment, Tesla is selling this version in California, the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. However, it is still not available in Asia and most of the company's European markets.

The company also started to receive orders for the seven-seater Model Ys. But, it is essential to remember that you need to add $3,000 on top of the car's base price. The fee is intended for the interior upgrade, which will provide you a third-row seating for two with USB-C charging ports and a sliding second row, which has adjustable backs.

The improvement will also allow you to fold the second and third rows for an electronic fold-flat release and cargo storage.
