BERLIN, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 05: Visitors look at a Tesla Model S electric car at the Panasonic stand at the 2014 IFA home electronics and appliances trade fair on September 5, 2014 in Berlin, Germany. IFA is the world's biggest fair of its kind and is open to the public through September 10.

Car Advice reported that the consumers can choose between the 2022 Tesla Model S' aircraft-type steering wheel, which was already revealed last week, or the conventional style, which is still not revealed by the electric vehicle manufacturer.

To help you decide which one to pick once the 2022 Tesla Mode S is released, here are each of the steering wheel's features.

Aircraft-style vs. conventional type

The leaked images, which were published in the subreddit group r/tesla motors, revealed that the conventional type steering wheel will have a circular design, which is the same as those found in the smaller Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles.

A Tesla model S sits parked outside of a new Tesla showroom and service center in Red Hook, Brooklyn on July 5, 2016 in New York City. The electric car company and its CEO and founder Elon Musk have come under increasing scrutiny following a crash of one of its electric cars while using the controversial autopilot service. Joshua Brown crashed and died in Florida on May 7 in a Tesla car that was operating on autopilot, which means that Brown's hands were not on the steering wheel.

Although this is the case, the conventional steering wheel will still benefit from the same stalk-less layout as the yoke or aircraft-style steering wheel. Why? Because it will also have controls for wipers, indicators, and lights integrated into touch-based buttons. These are located on either side of the wheel's central hub.

On the other hand, it seems like the only difference between the two is their shape. The aircraft-type has a rectangular design which is not commonly seen in modern vehicles, either EV or mechanical.

Which one is better?

Rumors suggested that the yoke steering wheel will not really be an option, claiming that it is only fitted as a concept for the market show since road-legal cars usually use the conventional type of steering wheels.

Since their designs are the only factors that differentiate them from one another, it is hard to tell which one is better. But, if you will for practical uses, the conventional style still has the upper hand since it can easily maneuver any car, unlike the rectangular one, which is hard to use, especially if you are doing a full u-turn.

Aircraft-style might have a problem with NHTSA

If ever Tesla plans to officially release the aircraft-type steering, the company might have a problem since it should pass safety standards first. Slash Gear reported that NHTSA (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) can't determine if the new steering wheel would pass the requirements. Although this is the case, this kind of steering wheel on the Tesla Model S is still a speculation. It is still important to wait for Tesla's actual announcements.
