Online hero shooter "PALADINS" has recently unveiled its 48th champion, Octavia, also known as The Indomitable.

Announced through a champion teaser trailer on the Paladins YouTube channel, a first-person view of a character can be seen running from a city besieged by Yagorath the Devourer. Halfway through the 50-second video, the character offering the story's vantage point is saved by a military woman - armed with a scoped rifle and with an X-shaped scar on her cheek. Fearlessly facing The Devourer, the character revealed as Octavia casts a pillar of lightning upon the raging monster before the scene cuts to white before making the announcement: "Octavia, Available March 2021."

"She fights for a better life for us all. What truly distinguishes Octavia is her unyielding determination and trust in her soldiers," a description from Paladins game developer Hi-Rez Studios said of Octavia. "If there is hope, she will find that spark and fan it into a roaring blaze, inspiring her troops with unwavering loyalty."

Following an Update Show on Twitch on March 3, the champion specs were revealed on the official Paladins website.

Command the Battlefield with Octavia the Indomitable

Octavia carries around her Marksman Rifle as a damage-based champion, giving her a bonus of 500 damage every 0.3 seconds. It has a maximum of 12 ammo and remains fully effective up to 900 units. Its alt-fire, Designated Sights, slows movement speed by half but allows Octavia to gain increased accuracy - allowing her to see enemies within all Distortion Fields, whether it be from friend or foe.

Her abilities include Commanding Leap - sending her high up into the air for a better vantage point and in combination with Designated Sights, could leave her floating for up to 2.5 seconds in midair - and Distortion Field, which creates an opaque dome whose contents were invisible to everyone outside of it.

Lastly, Octavia's ultimate skill allows her to call on rain of lasers upon her foes with Creeping Barrage. Each beam deals 850 base damage and is set up into two parts: the first is a small targeting beam dealing 100 damage and can destroy shields, and a larger beam packing 850 damage upon contact.

Furthermore, her ability to command the battlefield is augmented with her talents. She starts with Hell or High Water, which creates a small healing pool upon landing from the Commanding Leap ability and prevents her ammo from being consumed. At Level 2, Octavia unlocks Asymmetric Warfare - augmenting her Distortion Fields with damage for enemies and heals for allies. Lastly, upon racing Level 8, Octavia gets Display of Force, making Creeping Barrage even more dangerous by its smaller pre-fire beam now rooting enemies in place before the big lasers come on down.

About Paladins

Paladins was developed by Evil Mojo, an internal studio under Hi-Rez Studios. The free-to-play online hero shooter was released in 2018 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

The game fuses science fiction and fantasy elements, often resulting in anachronistic design choices such as medieval-themed "champions" equipped with high-powered firearms. Its in-game story follows the conflict between The Magistrate - which is similar to the government figure that aims to control the magic in the world - and The Resistance, which contains the titular Paladins fighting for the freedom to use magic.
