Elon Musk's "First Mars City" or also called as the Mars Base Alpha is now gaining more attention than before. A lot of people were still in doubt whether this construction is possible, but the SpaceX CEO seems quite confident that this is not only a figment of his imagination.

As of now, few details were already confirmed about this construction. Here's a quick rundown of the things you should know about the "First Mars City."

Elon Musk 'First Mars City:' Construction Date, Glass-Domes, Is it Possible?

Tech Times reported on Sunday, March 21, the first Mars city will be called as 'Nuwa.' The area will be developed at Tempe Mensa in Mars.

This will be one of the five cities that are set to be constructed in the red planet.

Interestingly, Elon Musk and its developer company, ABIBOO, said that the future city will still have similar environment with Earth. This includes houses, offices, and other buildings.

Alfredo Munoz, the founder of ABIBOO, told Euronews that approximately 250,000 humans can live in this city.

Glass-dome construction

Aside from the fact that Mars is a different planet from Earth, another problem to face in this project is how its construction would look like.

Last year, Musk mentioned in one of his tweets that the Mars city will have a glass-dome construction. Through the process of "terraforming," humans are able to breathe in the open space of Mars.

This process was proposed by Musk, and was even supported by other scientists, according to Futurism

"Life in glass domes at first," Musk wrote in a Thursday tweet, responding to a question about what life on Mars will look like early on. "Eventually, terraformed to support life, like Earth."

Construction date

The construction date for the Nuwa Mars City is still under a rock right now. ABIBOO first mentioned that the city will be ready in year 2100.

However, it was immediately changed by Musk saying, the construction will start within the 2020 decade.

Is it possible?

As said, there are still doubts whether this project is a good-to-go one. Sky News reported that Lord Rees, who has been the astronomer royal since 1995, said that the project is a "dangerous delusion."

"The only reason for humans to go to space would be for adventure. To live on Mars is not going to be easy. Mars has a hostile environment," said him. "The idea of Elon Musk to have a million people settle on Mars is a dangerous delusion. Living on Mars is no better than living on the South Pole or the tip of Mount Everest."

Do you still believe that Elon can do it?
