eCommerce has been around for many years; however, it has become even more popular through the COVID-19 pandemic. Business owners realized having an online presence and creating digital stores was a great alternative as people were in lockdown, and most stores had to close their doors for an unknown period of time. But starting an eCommerce business is not always as easy as it may sound. For that reason, we sat down with Shopify expert Steven Ridzyowski and asked him to share what steps companies must follow when starting an eCommerce business.

Steven Ridzyowski is an eCommerce, Shopify, digital marketing, and digital ads expert who founded his marketing agency to help others grow their business. He and his team at Ecommerce Marketing Agency are dedicated to helping not only different eCommerce companies grow their customer base, brand loyalty, and bottom line but also those looking to get started. Based on his personal and professional experience, Ridzyowski shared with us four steps you must follow when starting an eCommerce business.

First Step: Shopify

Ridzyowski's first advice to existing or new businesses when leaping into the eCommerce world is to create a Shopify account. What is Shopify? This expert explains, "it is a platform that allows individuals to build their brand, their online presence, and their store." With this account, they will create a name and a logo, find a domain, utilize stock images, amplify their brand, and begin selling their products.

Second Step: Domain

After your Shopify store is completely set up, the next step you should follow is purchasing a domain name and attaching it to your store. This domain will become your identification string, providing you with administrative autonomy, authority, and control within the internet. Why is it important to attach it to your Shopify store? Ridzyowski says, "that way, you will have your web address, and people will be able to access your store as soon as you launch it."

Third Step: Oberlo

Your store is digitally set up, but you are missing something. Yes, your products. One way to find products, add them to your store, and customize their descriptions is through Oberlo. There are plenty of platforms created to do this, but Ridzyowski recommends Oberlo "because it has the best in-depth statistics to ensure the product you are choosing is the best. It allows you to look at the potential product before you start selling it, and you can buy it directly from the supplier to have it shipped to your customer, keeping track of where your order is at all times. They include an automated tool to change the price of your products so you can focus on getting the traffic you need."

Fourth Step: Advertisement

The store is ready to be launched, the domain is purchased, and the products are done through Oberlo; what should you do next? It is time for advertisement. This digital ads expert encourages you to see the trending ads and how to make them fit your product. Remember to add your product link to the advertisement so customers can be redirected to your website and purchase what they like. Ridzyowski recommends "starting with Facebook ads because they are the easiest source of traffic for paid ads. The ideal strategy would be to begin with engagement ads to see if the product will be getting traction. From there, I would move on to purchase campaigns. You know your ads worked, so you can create a purchase campaign for them and start getting purchases for that specific product."

Starting a business can be highly challenging, and just because eCommerce has become popular, it does not mean you will not be facing obstacles. However, you are able to navigate the challenges if you know the appropriate steps to take. These four steps you must follow when starting an eCommerce business shared by Shopify expert Steven Ridzyowski will guarantee a smooth launching and successful business.
