Video gaming is a massive industry that is reliant on the tech to offer the best experience it can. So as technology improves, so will gaming.

Take a look at the tech advancements we think will make major changes in the gaming world in 2022.

Virtual reality will hit its peak

Virtual reality is being given a great push by Zuckerberg right now who thinks it's going to be the place to do your food shopping and host office meetings, but before he gets so ambitious, the industry that VR is really aimed at, gamers, should get their feet on the ground.

But gaming is in a bit of a chicken and egg situation. They want to make VR a household item next to the console, but the games being offered aren't high quality enough for a lot of gamers to justify buying another piece of hardware - and in order to make more high-quality games, they need money from VR headsets.

So, what's the solution? Developers will find the money from somewhere, put all those eggs in one basket and release one game-changing game. It will not be an adaptation of another game, but its own with VR-specific gameplay, a massive world to explore and amazing graphics.

It probably won't be released this year, as this will take time, but it will be announced at the next E3 convention for everyone to buy along with their headsets.

eSports will only get bigger

eSports as an industry is rapidly growing and isn't about to stop anytime soon. The past lockdowns did a lot for the industry, which didn't require its fans to physically cheer from stands or players that didn't need to make contact to compete, causing a surge in popularity as stadiums shut down.

To give you an idea, the total eSports audience reached 495 million in 2020. Thanks to investors like Tej Kohli of the Tej Kohli & Ruit Foundation, and Chris Fralic of First Round Capital, teams have an injection of money to travel around the world and compete in various tournaments playing as many different games and genres as they please.

Subscription based gaming will take over

Gamers have been going through a highly disappointing cycle for a few years now. Developers succeed in building hype for a game, enough to justify a $60 price tag, gamers buy it, only to find a buggy mess that doesn't keep most of the promises laid out by the marketing team.

Some of us have gotten into the habit of waiting a year for the price to come down and the quality to go up with patches, but that is of no use to anyone. Developers are losing money and gamers are rightly losing the rag.

And then, amongst the No Man's Land of the Console Wars, stood one hero. Its name was Xbox Game Pass.

Sure, Sony has their own version of a subscription-based game catalogue along the lines of Netflix for gaming, but it doesn't hold as many games, going back as far through the generations.

It became a deciding factor in what console casual gamers would buy, since both isn't much of an option, and with a lot of players reportedly very happy with their decision, it might be the case that we see it expand in the future. Maybe the new game price tag will be scrapped entirely?
