The famous check-logo Nike is now planning to open up a Technology Center in Atlanta, Georgia, from footwear to sportswear. The new Tech Center aligns with the company's plans to use AI and machine learning to assist the company in reimagining "consumer experiences."

Nike to Open Technology Center in Atlanta

According to the story by Engadget, the company currently has multiple facilities located around the world focused mostly on product innovations as well as helping the company aspire far beyond its signature footwear.

The company recently announced that it would open a brand new Technology Center set to be located in Atlanta, Georgia. As per the company, the upcoming Tech Center will open in 2023 at West Midtown.

Technology Center to Focus on Company's Digital-First Supply Chain

Until the site is finally ready to accommodate staff, Nike employees that are based in the new Tech Center will be working remotely. The upcoming Atlanta Technology Center is expected to place more focus on the company's expansion when it comes to the digital-first supply chain and its logistics operations.

The new location is also set to be Nike's east coast cyber security command center. The upcoming Technology Center is set to employ both AI and machine learning in order to help the company "reimagine consumer experiences."

Nike Explains Reason Why They Chose Atlanta

Although the details remain quite blurry, expectations regarding specific details for the opening approaches regarding the upcoming Technology Center. Nike decided to put more effort into Atlanta despite the location not being really considered a "tech hub."

As per the report, Nike is leveraging Atlanta's deep sports roots as well as the skilled workforce, pushing their decision to build there. The company shared its thoughts regarding its decision to build in Atlanta for a press release.

Company Acknowledges Multiple Universities in the Area

Nike said the reason they chose Atlanta was due to the city's wealth when it comes to skilled and diverse tech talent and the many great universities within the area. This doesn't just focus on the private sector but also on the public sector.

Atlanta holds numerous universities, including Emory University, Georgia Tech, Morehouse College, Georgia State, etc. The University of Georgia is also not located that far from the site.

Atlanta Known for Multiple Professional Sports Franchises

The city is also home to numerous professional sports franchises, including the MLB, NBA, MLS, NFL, and the WNBA. Nike had also decided to tap Dr. Mona-Lisa Pinkney when it came to choosing a leader for the Atlanta Technology Center, according to InputMag.

Pinkney has already worked with Nike as the senior director of cybersecurity while being the co-founder of the Black Employees in Technology Network (BEiT). Pinkney also "assists with the Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS)."
