Crypto investors, owners, and overall enthusiasts are no longer a "unique" breed anymore. That's because of a simple reason: digital assets are experiencing a renaissance in these times, with them increasing in ubiquity almost every minute.

However, they might also reveal that you need to have specific personality traits to be fully invested in them; traits that some might consider "dark."

This was the conclusion of a recent study conducted by an international team of scientists, the results of which were published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences. The results they gathered were telling-and make a lot of sense if you think about it.

'The Dark Tetrad'

For the unaware, there's a so-called "Dark Tetrad" of four personality traits which can be considered "dark" or unnerving. According to IFLScience, these are as follows: Machiavellianism, sadism, narcissism, and psychopathy.

The researchers found that these four personality traits were more often than not present in people who express a massive interest in buying, trading, and owning cryptocurrencies. What follows is a breakdown of their findings, categorized by the dark tetrad.

Machiavellianism

Machiavellian people exhibit traits named after the philosophy of Italian thinker Niccolo Machiavelli. They are known for being extremely good at deception and manipulating people, and always tend to take a calculated approach in order to achieve their goals.

Aside from this, Machiavellianism also tend to strongly believe in conspiracies, which can be linked to the practice of cryptocurrency trading as a whole. It was made as an apparent attempt to "fight" the powers-that-be who they say control the world behind the scenes. They like crypto because of their innate distrust of politicians and governing bodies, and because of its decentralized, largely unregulated nature

Narcissism

Narcissists are self-centered and believe that they are always privileged or dominant compared to others. They're also overconfident and have a tendency to make risky investments, which is what cryptocurrencies almost always are.

They like these digital assets because they're almost always focused on the big returns in the future. They don't overthink about risks: they just go out there and do it.

Psychopathy

Psychopaths are drawn to cryptocurrency trading because of their reckless, callous nature. They don't make decisions (even big-time ones) based on emotion, because they lack emotional intelligence and empathy.

The risky nature of cryptocurrency investing gives them a sense of stimulation that they always crave. Since they're not empathetic to others, they're almost invincible to the stress of the entire crypto trading process. But this also makes them more prone to becoming addicted to gambling.

Sadism

Sadists find joy in seeing others suffer. This doesn't directly relate to cryptocurrencies, but the connection lies in knowing that other people are missing out on the benefits of crypto investing. They're also prone to FOMO (fear of missing out), which also contributes to them not wanting to miss out on the potential rewards of these digital assets either.

Are you a cryptocurrency investor? Do you think you exhibit any of these four personality traits? Don't feel bad, because they might as well actually spell your success as an investor in these popular digital assets.
