Verizon is implementing an update to its existing anti-spam measures to help protect its users from falling victim to this kind of activity. The update includes better identification for spam calls or texts in Spanish and Mandarin.

Verizon is Updating Its Anti-Spam Measure to Reduce the Number of Scam Calls and Texts Received

According to the story by Android Headlines, Verizon, one of the largest carriers in the United States, is not excepted from its users receiving spam calls and texts. Just like other carriers, customers are still receiving spam calls or texts every once in a while.

The company, however, plans to change this and at least reduce the amount of spam calls or texts its customers receive by a significant amount. This is through Verizon updating its anti-spam measures to help increase the number of calls and texts from scammers it blocks.

Verizon Identified 24 Billion Unwanted Calls for 82 Million Customers to Date

According to the story by Verizon, they have been able to identify 24 billion unwanted calls for a total of 82 million customers ever since. This is on top of the millions of spam messages being received by its users on a daily basis.

As per the company, "industry-leading security capabilities" have given them the ability to better identify Spanish and Mandarin spam calls and prevent them. Verizon will be increasing its efforts to identify spams in other languages.

The Company is Working Closely with the Industry Traceback Group (ITG) to Report Scam Calls

Verizon is also working closely with Industry Traceback Group (ITG) in order to better identify robocalls and automatically "help pass them on to law enforcement." This was recorded as the first time that a carrier has been able to identify and submit "foreign language scam call examples to the ITG."

Manon Brouillette, the CEO of Verizon Consumer Group, said that the company is able to source, report, and prevent bad actors thanks to the help of some of the most advanced network security analytics in the world.

Verizon Says the Call Filter App Helps Customers Protect Themselves From Scam Calls

Brouillette detailed that the Call Filter app and other tools also helped their customers protect themselves. They announced that they are working together in order to prevent scam calls from making victims out of their customers.

Although scam calls might not be stopped 100%, Verizon plans to at least decrease the number of scam calls and texts its customers receive on a daily basis. So far, Android Headlines notes that its customers seem satisfied with the changes made by the company.

During the first quarter of this year, customers reportedly received less scam calls compared to the same quarter of last year due to the Verizon Anti-Robocalling Efforts Tracker. The company, however, did not give any particular survey data to show just how much their efforts have worked.
