While 2D games might look easy to make, Square Enix, one of the most popular companies when it comes to the HD-2D style, says that it is actually more expensive than most people think.

Square Enix Continues to Roll Out Games in HD-2D Style

According to the story by Comic Book, despite being reportedly more expensive than what a lot of people think, Square Enix continues to roll out games in this style. An example of this is the company's plans to release a "Live a Live" remake to be a Nintendo Switch exclusive in July.

Other titles that the company plans to release in HD-2D style include "Dragon Quest III" which is still in development as of press time. To add, there are also a few other games that could benefit from the popular HD-2D style.

Company Won't Limit Itself to Just HD-2D Style

Although the company has been well known for its use of the HD-2D style, as per Asano, this doesn't mean that the company is strictly limiting itself to that style alone. It was noted that the style could still evolve from game to game.

It was noted that even the HD-2D style is expected to evolve over time. An example of this is the "Live a Live" game which had prehistoric atmospheres that were different from sci-fi scenarios.

HD-2D Style Games Responsible for a Lot of the Company's Success

The company plans to use its new ideas in order to increase the range of their expression through their different titles. Although the costs of HD-2D could be enough to limit some developers, the style has shown massive mainstream success for a lot of gamers.

Comic Book says that they hope to see continued use of this style in future games to come. According to Game-News24, the HD-2D appeals to retro enthusiasts due to how it brings back the nostalgic feeling through distinctive art.
